Rohingya registration without UNHCR involvement may cause trouble
As Bangladesh government did not involve the UNHCR in collecting biometric data of the Rohingyas fleeing Myanmar, it can create complexities for them while returning to their own country, Ain O Salish Kendra (ASK) said today.
ASK executive director Sheepa Hafiza expressed the apprehension at a press conference at Cox’s Bazar Press Club today after a team of the rights organisation visited several Rohingya camps of the district.
Sheepa Hafiza said over four lakh refugees from Myanmar have fled into Bangladesh and most of them are children. But the Rohingya children are not being brought under the biometric registration process, she said.
The registration methods of only 3,000 Rohingya refugees have so far been completed starting from September 11 to September 16, she added.
