Mymensingh transport owners threaten strike from May 30

Transport owners of Mymensingh have threatened to go for an indefinite strike in six districts from Wednesday if law enforcers fail to arrest by tomorrow those, who allegedly vandalised vehicles on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway on May 13.

The six districts under the division are Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Sherpur, Tangail, Netrakona and Kishoreganj.

The transport owners made the announcement at a press conference at Mymensingh Press Club auditorium today.

They alleged that a group of students of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) ransacked some 40 vehicles blocking the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at Zero-point near the university on the evening of May 13.

The students were protesting in Churkhai Beltoli area in Mymensingh Sadar upazila after a truck hit a JKKNIU’s bus, the transport owners claimed during the press conference.

Two cases were lodged with Kotwali and Trishal police stations accusing some 400 unidentified students on May 15 following the incident.

“But the attackers are yet to be identified and arrested,” Md Aminul Haque Shamim, convener of Sarak-Paribahan Malik-Sramik Oikya Parishad’s local unit, said while reading out a written statement at the press conference.
