Netrakona war crimes suspect dies
War crimes suspect Ahmed Ali of Netrakona died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in the wee hours today.
Ali, 72, was admitted to the DMCH after he felt sick at Dhaka Central Jail on Wednesday, said Mokhlesur Rahman Badal, conducting prosecutor of the war crimes case.
He was arrested on August 13 for his alleged involvement in crimes committed in Netrakona during the country’s Liberation War in 1971.
UNB adds, Ali, a resident of Sunaikanda in Purbadhala upazila of Netrakona, died of old age ailments.
Police arrested Ali and another suspect Abdur Rahman, 72, after the tribunal issued arrest warrants for seven war crimes suspects including him for their wartime offences.
According to the investigation agency, Ali was involved with anti-liberation Muslim League and Nezam-e-Islami in 1971 and later joined Razakar Bahini.
