Newly elected lawmakers Farhad, Shamim take oath

The newly elected Awami League lawmaker BM Farhad Hossain and Jatiya Party lawmaker Shamim Haidar Patwari took oath in parliament today.

Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury administered the oath-taking ceremony at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, says a release from the parliament secretariat.  

Md Abdur Rob Hawlader, senior secretary of the Jatiya Sangsad, conducted the brief programme.

Shamim won in the Gaibandha-1 (Sundarganj) by-polls while ruling AL candidate Farhad won in Brahmanbaria-1 (Nasirnagar) by-polls held on March 13.

Shamim defeated AL candidate Afroza Bari by 10,000 votes while Farhad defeated JP candidate Rezwan Ahmed by 48,413 votes.

Brahmanbaria-1 constituency fell vacant following the death of Fisheries and Livestock minister Sayedul Hoque on December 16 last year, while Gaibandha-1 seat fell vacant after AL MP Golam Mostafa Ahmed died in a road accident on December 19.
