2 children killed in Sylhet road crash

Two underage siblings were killed and around 15 others injured when a bus plunged into a roadside ditch at Sylhet-Tamabil highway in Jaintiapur upazila of Sylhet this afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Lubna Begum, 10, and Ahona Begum, 8; daughters of Showkat Ali of Fulbari village of the upazila.

The accident took place around 1:00pm in Katagang area when a Sylhet bound bus from Jaintiapur upazila plunged into a roadside ditch while overtaking another bus, leaving the two dead on the spot.

Of the injured, four were taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, Khan Md Moynul Jakir, officer-in-charge of Jaintiapur Police Station, said.

Other injured have been taken to Jaintiapur Upazila Health Complex, the OC said adding that the dead bodies of the deceased children were sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
