Two dengue patients died in Dhaka and Khulna today.

Of the deceased, Nasima Akter, 48, a resident of the capital’s Shewrapara area, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 9:30am.

She diagnosed with dengue five days back and was admitted to the hospital early today, said Dr Nasiruddin, assistant director (admin) of DMCH.

Ashiquzzaman was admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) in the morning and died around 11:00am, UNB reports quoting Dr Shailendranath Biswas of KMCH.

Hailing from Shalikha upazila of Magura, Ashiquzzaman was suffering from the mosquito-borne disease.

Bangladesh has been struggling to contain a massive outbreak of dengue this year. Dhaka, its densely-populated capital city, has been at the centre of the outbreak.

The government said 75,753 people were hospitalised with dengue since the beginning of this year. Of them, 72,114 made full recovery.

Since January, the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) received information about 192 dengue-related deaths. So far, it has reviewed 96 cases and confirmed 57 dengue deaths.

Currently, several thousand dengue patients are being treated at hospitals and clinics across the country.
