2 rape accused killed in ‘gunfight’
Two accused of a rape case were killed in a reported gunfight with police in Rajapur village of Bhola’s Sadar upazila early today.
The deceased were identified as Monjurul Alam, 26, and Md Alamin, 30, residents of Char Sibli area in the upazila, our Jhalakathi correspondent reports quoting police.
Both of them were accused in a gang rape case which was filed with the police station on Monday, said Md Sagir Mia, officer-in-charge of Bhola Sadar Police Station.
According to case statement, Manjurul and Alamin allegedly raped a six-grader Sunday night when she went to adorn her hands with mehedi to a neighbour’s house.
The gunfight took place when a team of policemen was patrolling on the road around 3:00am, the OC said.
The law enforcers heard sound of firing at Rajapur village, rushed there and found two groups of robbers were exchanging gunfire, he added.
Sensing presence of the lawmen, the suspected robbers started to fire at the law enforcers. In retaliation, the policemen also fired triggering a “gunfight” between them.
At one stage, the robbers left the place. Later police found two bullet-hit bodies there, the OC added.
The bodies were sent to Bhola Sadar Hospital.
A firearm, two sharp weapons and two bullets were recovered from the spot.
