2 housewives 'beaten to death’ in Satkhira
Two women have been reportedly beaten to death in two upazilas of Satkhira; believed to be victims of dowry demand from their husbands.
The deceased were identified as Sumayia Khatun, 23 and Bilkis Khatun, 22, our Satkhira correspondent reports quoting police.
Sumayia’s body was recovered from her residence with a piece of cloth wrapped around her neck in Kamannagar area of Sadar upazila early today.
Her maternal aunt Fatematujjohra claimed, Sumayia's husband used to beat her frequently over dowry. She alleged, her husband killed her last night.
An unnatural death case has been filed with Satkhira Police Station, Mostafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of the police station, told The Daily Star.
In Tala upazila, Bilkis was allegedly beaten and poisoned by her husband Kabir Sheikh yesterday afternoon, alleged victim’s father Shawkat Hossain.
“Kabir beat his wife over dowry. He and his family members forcefully poured poison in her mouth. She was declared dead at Tala Upazila Health Complex,” he said.
Mehedi Rasel, officer-in-charge of Tala Police Station, said the body was handed over to family after autopsy. “Nothing can be said for certain until the report comes out.”
