Three people were arrested on charge of raping a ninth-grade student in Boalmari upazila in Faridpur today, police said.

The arrestees are Tarok Mandal (19), Sykat Mandal (18), and Md Nasir (30) of Lankarchar village in the upazila.

The arrests were made after the victim filed a case with Boalmari Police Station, accusing five persons under the Woman and Children Repression Prevention Act yesterday, our local correspondent reported.

Quoting the victim, Md Sohidul Islam, sub-inspector of Boalmari Police Station, said the girl went to visit one Nasir Mollah in a char of the Madhumati river around 8:00pm last night.

Nasir Mollah, along with four friends -- Tarok, Sykat, Nasir and Hridoy -- raped her and left her there, the SI quoted the girl as saying.

Later the victim returned home alone and told her family about the incident around 11:00pm, the police official added.

Md Aminul Islam, officer in-charge of Boalmari Police Station, said, “The victim was sent to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for medical tests. We will produce the arrestees before a court tomorrow”.
