A Dhaka court today awarded capital punishment to three persons for killing an O-level student in Dhaka 15 years ago.

The three convicts are, Ziaur Rahman, his step brother Salahuddin and their friend Alamgir.

The three abducted Ammar Shamsi, a student of Dhanmondi Pilot Memorial and Tutorial School in the capital, only for Tk 10 lakh ransom from Lalbagh area on October 16, 2000.

Detective Branch of police arrested Ziaur, Salahuddin and Alamgir on October 18 on the same year when they went to Azimpur to collect ransom from the victim's father.

According to their confessional statement, police recovered the body of Shamsi from Gazipur National Park six days after the abduction.

Shamsi's father Taufique Shamsi filed a murder case with Lalbagh Police Station after his son was abducted.

The case proceedings remained stayed for over 11 years following a High Court order after the accused challenged the charge framing against them.
