4 'criminals' killed in Cox’s Bazar gunfights
One suspected drug peddler and three “robbers” were killed in separate “gunfights” in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar early today.
The deceased were identified as Mohammad Junayed, Mohammad Ayub, Mehedi and the suspected drug peddler Imran Mollah, our Cox’s Bazar correspondent reports quoting Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge (OC) of Teknaf Police Station.
Acting on a tip-off that a robber gang was planning to conduct a robbery, a team of police conducted a raid in Nurullah Ghona area of the upazila, the OC said.
Sensing the presence of the police team, the criminals started firing on them, triggering a “gunfight” in retaliation, the official said.
Meanwhile, the suspected drug peddler was killed in another alleged gunfight at Baharchara Dhargachara area near Marine Drive in the district, the official added.
The bodies were recovered and sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue.
Police recovered seven local arms, five sharp weapons and 25 rounds of bullets in the two incidents.
