Four suspected robbers were killed in what Rapid Action Battalion claimed was a gunfight in Chandpai range of Sundarbans today.

All the deceased were members of a robber gang, locally known as ‘Hasan Bahini’, our Bagerhat correspondent reports quoting Assistant Superintendent of Police Taijul Islam, also an official of Rab-8.

The Rab team was on its regular patrol last night when a group of robbers opened fire on them triggering a “gunfight” in retaliation, the ASP said.

At one point of the “gunfight”, the robbers fled the scene.

Rab recovered a huge cache of weapons and ammunition from the spot, he said.

Identities of the deceased and other details about the incident could not be known immediately.
