5 to die for killing girl after rape in C’nawabganj

A Chapainawabganj court today sentenced five people to death for killing a young woman after rape in 2015.

Convicts Nayan Karmokar Rabidas, 28, Proshanto Rabidas, 22, Nitai Chandra Rabidas, 25, Subhash Das, 42, and Proshanto Rabidas, 24, were also fined Tk 1 lakh each, reports our Chapainawabganj correspondent.

The Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 in Chapainawabganj, Shawkat Ali pronounced the verdict at noon in presence of Nayan Karmokar and Proshanto Rabidas. The three other convicts remain absconding.

The court also acquitted three other accused -- Shree Krishna, 23, Abdur Rahim, 35, and Sohagi Begum, 27, -- as the charges brought against them could not be proved. 

WHAT IS THE CASE STATEMENT?

According to the case statement, police recovered the floating body of Ayesha Khatun, 20, from a ditch in Maharajpur of Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila on June14, 2015.

Ayesha was the daughter of Mofijul Islam hailing from Kalinagar-Bablabona area in Sadar upazila.

After receiving the autopsy report, Sub-inspector of Sadar Police Station Shamim Aktar filed a case against unidentified persons on August 15 the same year.

Later that year, Sarwar Rahman, inspector of Sadar Police Station and also Investigation Officer of the case, pressed charges against eight persons on December 14.

According to charge sheet, Nayan Karmokar Rabidas developed a relation with Ayesha Khatun and he called her on June 13 and raped her with others at night, they strangled her and dumped her body in the ditch. Police recovered the body a day after.
