5 stabbed ‘for reporting drug peddlers’ in Chandpur
Five people who filed complaints against drug peddlers in Chandpur’s Kachua have been attacked and stabbed by assailants.
The injured are: chairman of community police Md Mofizull Islam, 60, Shariful Islam, 23, Md Shakil, 18, Imam Hossain, 35, and Mostakim Hossain Miraj, 40, a local correspondent reports.
All of them are undergoing treatment at Kachua Upazila Health Complex, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kachua Police Station Wali Ullah, told The Daily Star.
They were returning home around 10:00pm last night when a group led by “drug peddler” Mostafizur Rahman Shohag attacked them with sticks and machetes at Rijuria-Lakhsmipur Bazar, the case filed over this incident said.
Earlier yesterday, Mofizull Islam’s son Iman Hossain filed a case with Kachua Police Stattion against eight people including Mostafizur Rahman Shohag, the OC said.
Earlier on April 24, three people were caught red-handed for selling yaba. They were handed over to the police.
The drug peddlers are believed to have attacked them after coming out of prison on bail, the police official added.
