AL MP wears placard to parliament demanding embankment for his constituency
Ruling Awami League MP SM Shahjada today resorted to a new technique in the parliament to realise his demand for an embankment in his constituency.
The AL MP from Patuakhali-3 spoke at the Jatiya Sangsad and wore a placard around his neck that said "No more demand; don't want relief, just a dam".
He made the demand while participating in the general discussion on the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2021-22 at the Jatiya Sangsad.
SM Shahjada said he went to his constituency recently with relief following the recent cyclone and had to face people's wrath. He said MPs of different coastal areas have to deal with the same situation.
"The locals do not want relief, they want a permanent solution on building embankments in their coaster areas," he said.
At the end of his speech, he put the placard around his neck.
Sources at the parliament secretariat said, such a demonstration by a lawmaker in parliament is rare in the recent history of parliament.
In the recent cyclone Yaas, around 38 villages of Koyra went under water after the flood protection dam was breached in at least 21 points.
The coastal upazila of Koyra is the worst affected in terms of natural calamities like Aila, Sidr, Amphan and finally the recent one -- Yaas.
Every time, hundreds of houses, fish enclosures, vast areas of farmland, roads and other structures get damaged as the entire region becomes submerged.
