Chased by cops, man drowns in Natore river
A man drowned in a river after he jumped into the water to escape police arrest in Bagatipara upazila of Natore this afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Azizul Sheikh, 32, son of Sirazul Sheikh of Chandrakhoir village, our Natore correspondent reports quoting police.
Abul Hasanat, additional superintendent of police (Sadar Circle) in Natore, said a police team launched a drive in Dayarampur area this afternoon to arrest Azizul as he was “carrying yaba tablets”.
Sensing the presence of law enforcers, Azizul tried to escape the police arrest and jumped into the Baral river and drowned, the police official said.
Later, police recovered the body and sent it to Natore Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
Rakibul Islam, brother of the victim, alleged that when his brother jumped into the river to avoid the arrest, one Yasin Ali also jumped into the water to catch Azizul and scuffled with him.
Azizul died at one stage of their scuffle, he claimed.
