Clash over tribute: Kushtia Jubo League man killed
A local activist of the ruling party's youth front, Jubo League, was killed during infighting over paying tribute to Bangabandhu in Kushtia today.
The deceased was primarily identified as Sabuj, 25, an activist of the local Jubo League, reports our Kushtia correspondent quoting police.
The incident took place on the national mourning day – the day when Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was assassinated along with his family back in 1975.
The clash ensued during paying respect to a mural of Bangabandhu around noon, said Abu Bakar Siddiqui, additional superintendent of police in Kushtia.
Locals said, the clash took place between followers of Anowar Ali, president of Kushtia district unit Awami League, and Swechchasebak League, who are followers of the party's Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif.
Both sides are said to have clashed with pistols, according to SP Abu Bakar. "At least 50 people were hurt in the clash," he said. Six of the injured were shot during the clash.
Sabuj later died after being taken to Kushtia General Hospital, he added.
