Construction materials occupy school ground

A contractor has kept huge quantity of stones and sand in front of the classrooms of Jugni Government Primary School in Shailakupa upazila under the district for over a month, much to the disturbance of classes and play of the students.

Shamimul Haque, vice chairman of Shailakupa upazila parishad, who has got the tender for Hatgopalpur-Abaipur road construction work, has kept the items on the school ground, teachers said.

During a recent visit to the school, this correspondent also saw construction workers occupying one of the four classrooms of the school.

Due to the situation, classes are disturbed and students cannot freely walk or play, said Robiul Islam, headmaster of the school.

When wind blows, dust causes irritation to the eyes of the kids, said a few guardians.

"We cannot play on thea school ground due to keeping of heaps of stones and sand here," said Nazim Uddin, a student of Class IV. 

District Primary Education Officer Shib Pada said he will see the matter soon.

Contacted, Shamimul Haque said he will vacate the school ground as soon as possible.
