Cop closed for beating Barisal AL leader
A constable of Barisal's Agoiljhara Police Station has been closed for allegedly beating a local leader of ruling party's front Swechchhashebak League.
Superintendent of Barisal police Akhtaruzzaman and Assistant Commissioner Abu Sayeed, spokesperson for Barisal Metropolitan Police, confirmed to our local correspondent.
Akhtaruzzaman said constable Mokhlesur Rahman was attached to Barisal police lines last night, adding that an investigation will be launched in this regard "soon".
The incident started with an altercation between Goila union Swechchhasebak League's assistant organising secretary Asaduzzaman Badal and Agoiljhara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Monirul Islam yesterday in Agoiljhara upazila.
Witnesses said police confronted Badal alleging that the arrangements of his timber shop hindered vehicular movement. Badal claimed the OC assaulted him during the altercation.
After the incident, Badal accompanied by his followers went to the residence of the local lawmaker Abul Hasnat Abdullah's residence to complain against the OC.
On their way back home, Constable Mokhlesur Rahman intercepted Badal and allegedly assaulted him. Badal's followers then took him to Goila Health Complex for treatment.
Contacted, OC Monirul Islam confessed that he had an alteration with Badal. He also told The Daily Star that Mokhles had punched Badal outside the lawmaker's house.
