Drug peddler dies in custody, Rab says yaba overdose
An alleged drug peddler of Patuakhali has died in custody, what the law enforcers have explained as overdose of yaba.
The deceased was identified as Md Shakil Khan, 28, our local correspondent reports quoting Rapid Action Battalion (Rab).
Shakil was arrested from Purba Alipur on charges of drug dealing around 3:30pm on Thursday, said Shoed Ahamed Khan, company commander of Rab-8.
According to Rab, Shakil, who was arrested with some yaba pills, which he somehow ingested and fell sick after being caught.
He was taken to Bauphal Upazila Health Complex where he died around midnight, the Rab official added. “He died from yaba overdose.”
Bauphal Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khondakar Mostafizur Rahman confirmed the death and said a case was filed in this regard.
The body was sent to Patuakhali General Hospital for autopsy, he also said.
Villagers also alleged that Shakil was an identified drug dealer and was accused in three drug related cases filed with Dashmina Police Station.
Akhtaruzzaman, a medical officer of the hospital, said Rab brought Shakil to the hospital around 11:10pm saying that he had taken yaba pills.
