Elderly couple strangled in Natore

Miscreants strangled an elderly couple in Singra upazila of Natore last night.

The victims are Noni Gopal Kundu, 75, and his wife Chitta Rani Kundu, 65, residents of Parsaoil village in the upazila, reports our Natore correspondent.

Noni Gopal was a freedom fighter, Rafiqul Islam, assistant superintendent of police (Natore), confirmed the correspondent.   

Miscreants entered Noni Gopal's house and killed Chitta Rani Kundu first by stuffing her mouth with clothes and strangulating her, said Nasir Uddin Mandal, officer-in-charge of Singra Police Station.

Then, the gang tied Noni Gopal's hands and legs with rope and strangled him, the police officer said.

They might have been killed due to a previous enmity, the OC said.

Informed by locals, the bodies were recovered by the police and sent to Natore Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

Condemning the murders, Natore District Muktijoddha Sangsad Commander Abdur Rouf threatened to wage a tough movement if the killers are not arrested and punished immediately.
