Four people were arrested for allegedly attempting to rape a madrasa girl in Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali today.

The arrestees are Sarwer Hossain, 19, Noman, 20, Hasan Gazi, 19 and Nazmul, 20 and all of them are residents of Kumirmara village in the same upazila, our Patuakhali correspondent reports quoting police.

Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kalapara Police Station, said the incident took place around 2:00pm when the class-nine girl was returning home from her madrasa.

Villagers caught the four out of a group of 7-8 youths and handed over them to police, said the OC.

The victim’s father filed a case with Kalapara Police Station this evening in this connection, he said. “We are taking lawful step in this regard after proper investigation,” added OC Monirul.
