The authorities today closed Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College in Kishoreganj for an indefinite period following a clash between two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League.

The clash broke out between the factions over formation of its college unit committee.

The male and female students were asked to vacate their dormitories by 5:00pm today and by 7:00am tomorrow respectively, our Mymensingh correspondent reports quoting Professor Dr Md Ruhul Amin Khan, principal of the college.

A tense situation was prevailing at the medical college since the BCL held their council on September 22, campus sources said.

As per the council's decision, a full-fledged committee was scheduled to be formed on September 24 but two groups of BCL – one led by Mamun and another by Rajib -- locked in a clash over the formation of the committee around 11:30am yesterday.

Following the clash, an emergency meeting of the college academic council was held at 11:00am today and declared the medical college shut for sine die, the principal said.
