'Man tortured by neighbours on suspicion of burglary in Bogura'
A man was tortured after he was picked up by five of his neighbours on suspicion of burglary at Ohor Malancha village under Kahalu upazila in Bogura, the victim's father said.
Police are yet to nab anyone in this connection even after a complaint was filed, reports our local correspondent quoting the victim's father.
The victim Ataur Rahman Shiru, 30, son of Majnu Shonar, is now undergoing treatment at Kahalu Upazila Health Complex.
Majnu Shonar told The Daily Star that eight people came to his house on Thursday around 3:00am and was searching his son.
"My son was told by one Selina that he had stolen a gas cylinder from her house and asked him to return it," he said. At one stage they started beating him up and later took him to a house where four people tortured him by hammering nails and inserting sewing needles into his legs.
On information, police rescued him and took him to a hospital, the father said.
"I lodged a complaint with Kahalu Police Station this afternoon but police are yet to nab any perpetrators," he added.
Ambar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Kahalu PS said they have registered the complaint and legal action is underway.
Signs of torture were found on the victim's body, but he is not in critical condition, said the OC.
