Mentally challenged girl raped

A mentally challenged girl was raped allegedly by one of her neighbours in Taraganj upazila of Rangpur last Friday.

The next day, mother of the 16-year-old victim filed a rape case with Taraganj Police Station accusing her neighbour Hasan Mia, 27, son of Dulal Mia of Menannagar Barabari village in the upazila,.

Sub Inspector (SI) Ashish Kumar Shil, also the investigation officer of the case, said the girl was roaming near a potato field at the village on Friday afternoon.

At one stage, Hasan lured the girl to a nearby house and raped her there, he said, quoting the case statement.

Following the filing of the case, police took the victim to Rangpur Medical College Hospital and conducted her medical test there on Sunday, the SI said, adding that they were investigating the incident and trying to arrest the culprit as soon as possible.
