Mother, daughter killed in Chattogram fire incident

A woman and her daughter were killed in a fire that broke out at Halishahar in Chattogram city this evening.

The deceased were identified as Shiuli Akter, 35, and her daughter Lamiya, 6, reports our Chattogram correspondent.

The fire broke out at Haider Colony in Kolshi Dighirpar area of Madya Halishahar under Bandar Police Station at around 7:30pm, Sub-Inspector Md Adbur Rahim Miah, in-charge of Madya Halishahar Police Outpost, told The Daily Star.

The victims were in their house when the fire broke out, the official said, adding that 10 shanties in the colony were gutted in the fire.

On information, four units of firefighters went to the spot and doused the fire around 9:00pm, he said.

The fire originated from a gas cylinder blast at the kitchen of the deceased and spread around, the police official also said. 

Valuables worth around Tk 22 lakh were gutted in the incident, he added.
