Oikya Parishad urges to boycott Rangpur-3 by-polls
Bangladesh Hindu-Bouddha-Christian-Oikya Parishad has urged the minority communities to boycott Rangpur-3 by-polls as the election date coincides with ‘Maha Saptami’ of Durga puja.
The election is scheduled to be held on October 5 but this year’s five-day long Durga puja, the biggest religious festival for Hindu communities, will begin on October 4 with ‘Maha Sashthi’.
The Oikya Parishad today issued a press release in this regard.
The minority leaders requested the Election Commission (EC) to postpone the election date as the Hindus will be celebrating their festival on October 5.
The EC did not pay any heed to the plea of the election date postponement, according to the release of the Oikya Parishad.
Due to the EC’s decision, the local Hindu people will reject the election, it said and urged the minority people not to be misled by anyone.
The parliamentary seat of Rangpur-3 constituency fell vacant following the demise of former Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad.
