Rape accused charge-sheeted in 24 hrs

Police arrested a man and submitted charge sheet against him within 48 hours of filing of a case in connection with attempted rape of a woman in Itna upazila of Kishoreganj. 

The accused is Khorshid Mia, 35, from Betega village in the upazila.

Quoting the case statement, Mohammad Morshed Zaman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Itna Police Station, said auto mechanic Khorshid Mia used to harass a 30-year-old woman who is a homemaker and mother of four children in his neighbourhood. 

When the woman's husband, a boatman by profession, went out on a hired boat trip on last Friday night, Khorshid entered her house early Saturday morning and made attempt to rape her.

Hearing her scream for help, the woman's son came to her rescue and tried to capture Khorshid. But the man managed to escape after a scuffle, said the OC.

Her husband filed a case with the police station in the evening of Monday when he returned home from the trip. Soon after the filing of the case, police raided different places in the area and arrested Khorshid early Tuesday. 

The following day, the accused was produced before a Kishoreganj court that sent him to jail custody after recording his confessional statement under Section 164, the OC added.

Investigation Officer of the case OC (Investigation) Mohammad Ahsan Habib submitted charge sheet against the accused on Wednesday afternoon following special directives from Mashrukur Rahman Khaled, superintendent of police in Kishoreganj, said police.
