Rifat Murder: Minni seeks HC bail
Aysha Siddika Minni today filed a petition with the High Court through lawyer seeking bail in a case filed over the murder of her husband Rifat Sharif.
Advocate ZI Khan Panna, a lawyer of Minni, told The Daily Star that the HC may hold hearing on the bail petition later in the day.
Citing from the petition, the lawyer said, “Minni is a woman and she is sick and therefore, she deserves bail in the case.”
ZI Khan said Minni was the principle eye witness of Rifat murder case. But she has been made an accused in the case, which is a “conspiracy”, he said.
Earlier, a Barguna court rejected Minni’s bail petition twice on July 22 and 30 respectively.
Police arrested Minni after a daylong interrogation on July 16. A court placed her on a five-day remand the following day. Three days later, a Barguna court recorded her statement.
On June 26, Rifat, 25, an internet service provider, was indiscriminately hacked to death by a group of men.
A video footage of the incident that went viral in social media, shows Minni screaming and trying in vain to save her husband.
Rifat’s father filed a murder case with Barguna Sadar Police Station against 12 people on the day of the murder.
Prime accused in the case, Nayan Bond, was killed in a “gunfight” with police on July 2.
