‘Robber’ killed in Khulna ‘gunfight’

A suspected robber was killed in a 'gunfight' with police in Daulatpur thana of Khulna city early today.

The deceased was identified as Mirazul Islam Miraz, 27,  an accused of 10 cases and a resident of Khanjahan Ali area.

Sheikh Moniruzzaman Mithu, additional deputy police commissioner of Khulna Metropolital police told our Khulna correspondent that police arrested Miraz from the upazila’s Senpara area around 9:00pm.

Based on his information, a team of police along with Miraz conducted a drive at the college field to seize illegal cosmetics in the wee hours of today.

When the team reached the spot, his associates opened fire on police, forcing them to fire back that triggered the “gunfight”, the official said.

Miraz was hit by a bullet during the “gunfight” and died on the spot, he added.

Police recovered one LG, two bullets, a screwdriver, two cleavers, one knife, some stolen goods and 50 Yaba pills from the spot.
