‘Robber’ shot in Khulna ‘gunfight’
An alleged robber was shot in a “gunfight” with Khulna cops in the early hours of today.
Delwar Hossain alias Dilu, 30, son of Nuru Patwary, a resident of Anjuman road under Daulatpur Police Station, was shot on the knee, our Khulna correspondent reports.
The incident took place in Kalpataru market area of Daulatpur when a police team raided the place, tipped-off about a robbery attempt, said Humayun Kabir, officer-in-charge of Daulatpur Police Station.
Sensing presence of law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on police forcing, the latter to trade gunfire in retaliation, the OC said. “At one stage, Delwar received a bullet in his knee shot by his fellow robbers.”

But his aides managed to flee the scene and Delwar has been admitted to the prison cell of Khulna Medical College and Hospital, he added.
Three police personnel were also injured during the encounter, Monira Sultana, assistant deputy commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) told the correspondent.
The injured police personnel are: ASI Abdul Halim, Arafat Hossain and Constable Mahbub.
Several local weapons and bullets were recovered from the spot, the ADC said.
Delwar stands accused in as many as five cases including attempt to murder, robbery and drugs, the OC said.
