Robbers loot house, kill retd army man
Robbers looted cash, gold ornaments and other valuables from a house after killing its owner at Ichhapur village in Kalihati upazila of the district early yesterday.
The deceased is Ramjan Ali, 55, a retired subedar of Bangladesh Army.
Police and family sources said a gang of 8/10 stormed the house around 2:30am.
They tied the family members and took away Tk 5 lakh, 30 tolas of gold ornaments, a motorbike, few cellphones and some bank documents.
At one stage, the robbers stabbed Ramjan, leaving him critically injured as he tried to resist them.
The victim was rushed to Tangail Medical College Hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead.
Shahidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kalihati Police Station, said they are raiding different areas to arrest the culprits.
In Dinajpur, police seized a microbus from Gobindaganj upazila in Gaibandha district yesterday, barely two hours after it was robbed in Birampur upazila of Dinajpur, reports our correspondent.
Md Waliullah, driver of the microbus, said he along with his nephew Syed Mansur Hossain Topu, a UK expatriate, was going to Dhaka around 2:30am.
As the vehicle reached Chinamor in Birampur upazila, a gang waylaid them. Later, the robbers tied them to a roadside tree and took away the microbus, he said.
On information from Birampur police, Gobindaganj highway police seized the vehicle from the area at 3:45am, said Amiruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Birampur Police Station.
None was arrested in this connection, said police.
