Tornado lashes Thakurgaon village, injures 10
At least 10 people were injured and a hundred houses badly damaged after a tornado lashed a village in Thakurgaon Sadar today.
The devastation was caused within just mere minutes in Bangroad Mandalpara village, our local correspondent reports quoting authorities.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Abdullah Al Mamun said that the storm hit the village around 7:00am and lasted for about three minutes.
The storm also uprooted several trees, electric poles and damaged vast tracts of standing crops including boro paddy and maize plants.
The local administration will assess the damage and take necessary initiative to extend aid and assistance to the affected families, he said.
Shafiqul Islam, a villager, said, “the storm hit our houses and crops out of nowhere. It also left 10 villagers hurt. They took treatment from a local hospital.”
Wrishikanta Roy, another villager, said the sudden storm damaged his houses and boro paddy that was almost ripe for harvesting.
“We are now forced to live under the open sky,” he said.
Anisur Rahman, chairman of Shukanpukhuri Union Parishad, said they were assessing the damage inflicted by the tornado.
