Two ‘Rohingya robbers’ killed in gunfight in Cox’s Bazar
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) claimed that two Rohingya robbers were killed in a gunfight with the elite force members early this morning in front of Jadimura Hill, adjacent to Rohingya Camp-26, in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar.
The deceased were identified as Abdul Hakim, 30, and Rashid Ullah, 35, reports our Cox's Bazar correspondent quoting Abdullah Mohammad Sheikh Shadi, assistant director (media) of Rab-15.
Acting on a tip off, a team of Rab-15 conducted a drive in the area where a group of robbers were preparing to commit a robbery, he said.
Sensing the presence of elite force, the robbers opened fire targeting Rab personnel, forcing them to retaliate that triggered a "gunfight", the Rab official said.
After the gunfight, Rab official conducted a drive on the hill and found two bullet-hit bodies lying on the ground. 15 pistols, 28 rounds of bullets and huge numbers of machetes were recovered from the spot.
Two Rab men were injured in the "gunfight", the Rab official said.
Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge (OC) of Teknaf Police Station said the bodies were sent to Cox's Bazar Zila Sadar Hospital for autopsy and a case in this connection is under process.
