War crimes: Sayedee to seek review of SC verdict
War criminal and Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh leader Delowar Hossain Sayedee will file a review against the Supreme Court verdict that commuted his death penalty to jail unto death.
The review plea will seek acquittal from all charges, Masud Sayedee, son of the convict, told The Daily Star after meeting the Jamaat leader at Kashimpur-1 jail in Gazipur today.
"My father has decided to file a review against the judgement. Today, he gave us instructions in this regard," Masud said. Three lawyers also accompanied him during the visit.
Asked, Masud said they will file the review by January 21.
The decision came a day after the government had filed a review plea seeking death penalty for Sayedee.
The International Crimes Tribunal-1 on February 28, 2014 year sentenced Sayedee to death for killing Ibrahim Kutti and one Bisa Bali in Pirojpur in 1971, even though it had found him guilty on eight charges filed against him.
Later on September 17, 2014, a five-member bench of the SC commuted the death sentence of Sayedee following his appeal seeking acquittal of all the charges brought against him.
The other charges Sayedee was convicted of include his association with Pakistani soldiers to abduct three women and rape them, torturing people, looting and setting fire to the houses of Hindus, forcing them convert to Islam in Pirojpur, and forcing them to leave the country in 1971.
