No primary terminal exams from this year: Minister

There will be no primary terminal examination from now on, Primary and Mass Education Minister Mostafizur Rahman said today.

"This year, there will be no terminal exam at the end of class-V. We will send a proposal soon to the cabinet division for scrapping the test," the minister said while talking to The Daily Star.

The scrapping of the test requires approval from the cabinet as the test was introduced in 2009 following the cabinet's decision, he added.

From now on, there will only be one public examination after class-VIII, he said. "We would hold the exam at the end of class-VIII this year. We haven’t decided the name of the exam yet," the minister said.

The cabinet will fix the name of the exams.

Asked about the scholarships being given on the basis of results of terminal exams, Mostafizur said, "We will certainly have an evaluation after class-V. We are working on it."
