Appeal against rejection by Dec 5: EC
Aspirants seeking to appeal against their disqualification for candidacy in the general elections have to file their case by December 5.
Election Commission’s Deputy Secretary Atiar Rahman told The Daily Star today, the appeal process will begin from tomorrow and continue till December 5.
Hearing on those appeals will be held on December 6, 7 and 8.
The matter of appeal comes at the closure of the commission’s scrutiny of nomination papers submitted, where several top political leaders were disqualified.
Among the top leaders are BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who is now in prison, and her party’s leader Amanullah Aman, and Srishak Sramik Janata League President Abdul Kader Siddiqui.
WHEN IS THE ELECTION?
Election Commission has revised polls schedule, deferring the 11th general election by a week to December 30 – a decision taken in November.
As per the schedule, November 28 was the deadline to submit nomination papers, December 2 was the date for scrutiny and December 9 the last date for withdrawal.
Throughout the last half of November, major political parties were busy selecting their chosen candidates for the 300 constituencies across Bangladesh.
