Now, child’s hand severed in Bogra road crash

A seven-year-old girl got her left hand severed and sustained injuries critically after being hit by a stone-laden truck in Sherpur upazila of Bogra today.

The incident took place around 1:30 pm when the victim, Sumi, 7, was crossing the road with her mother Marium Akter at Sherua Bottola area on Dhaka-Bogra highway, reports our correspondent quoting the victim’s aunt Parul Akter.

The victim is a student of Sherua Bottola Brac Kindergarten School. Her father, Md Dudal Khan, hailing from Fuldighi Dokkhinpara village under Sherpur upazila, is a rickshaw puller by profession. Sumi is the youngest among her three sisters, reports our Bogra correspondent.

The child has been admitted to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.

Mahbubur Rahman, the registrar of the hospital’s surgery department, said the child is in critical condition as she was brought to the hospital late. Her left arm has been severed from above elbow and one finger of her right hand was also severed, alongside injuries on her head, face, and rest of the body.

She, however, still has consciousness and will be under observation for next 24 hours, the doctor added.

The driver of the truck has been detained and the vehicle has been seized, said Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sherpur Police Station.

The accident took place at a time when the country is reeling from the death of Titumir College student Rajib Hossain.

On April 3, the third-year student lost his right hand after it got stuck between two speeding buses in Dhaka's Bangla Motor area. He lost the battle for his life at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital on April 17.

Besides, Khalid Hasan Hridoy, 19, a student of class-X, lost his hand on Dhaka-Khulna highway in Gopalganj on April 17. He has been undergoing treatment at DMCH since then in critical condition.

In another such instance, Runi Akhter, a student of University of Development Alternative (UODA) in Dhaka's Dhanmondi, got her leg crushed as a bus smashed her right leg against the base of a pavement in the capital's Farmgate on April 12.

On Friday night, Rozina Akhter, 18, a housemaid, got her right leg severed from her thigh in a mishap in Dhaka’s Chairmanbari area.
