Outlaw killed in Kushtia ‘gunfight’
An outlaw was killed in “gunfight” with police in Mirpur upazila of Kushtia early today.
The victim was identified as Palash Malitha, 29, son of Abul Malitha from the upazila and a Purbo Bangla Communist Party (Lal Pataka) member.
Palash was accused in atleast nine cases including four of murder, Kazi Jalal Uddin, officer-in-charge of Mirpur Police Station, told our Kushtia correspondent.
On secret information that robbers were taking preparation to commit robbery, police conducted a raid on Kushtia-Mirpur road at Bhanga Bottola around 2:00am.
Sensing the law enforcers’ presence there, the alleged robbers opened fire to them, prompting police to retaliate with gunfire that triggered the “gunfight”.
After the “gunfight”, police found the body of Palash lying on the ground.
Police recovered one shutter gun, three bullets and three sharp weapons from the spot.
