Own campus: Pvt universities to report by Sep 30
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid today told defaulter private universities to report by September 30 on progress regarding relocation to own campus premises.
Nahid said this in a view exchange meeting with authorities from private universities at the University Grants Commission (UGC) building in Agargaon.
He said based on the report submitted by the universities, UGC will have a one to one meeting with the universities.
Previously, government instructed all private universities to move to their own campus by September 15.
“Even though the private universities were instructed to move to their own campus, only 17 out of 52 have moved so far. Seven are partially functioning and nine still under construction,” Nahid said.
UGC Chairman Abdul Mannan observed private universities lack adequate skilled faculty members, conflict among the board members and poor research facilities among other irregularities.
Meanwhile, Private University Owner’s Association President Sheikh Kabir Hossain urged withdrawal of the recently imposed VAT on university fees – to which the education minister assured to have word with the finance minister and prime minister.
