People of 30 villages suffer for want of a concrete bridge
The people of 30 villages in Dhunat upazila under the district have to use a bamboo-made bridge on the Bangalee River at Joysing ghat of Sonahata village on Dhunat-Bogra road for going to and from Bogra town for different purposes.
The journey poses risk for people as small vehicles including rickshaw vans, cycles, motorcycles and auto-rickshaws also use the bamboo bridge.
During dry season, the people of 30 villages of Kalerpara, Alangi, Nimgaci, Chikashi and Gosaibari unions of Dhunat upazila use the bamboo bridge while they cross the river on small boats during the rainy season.
Local said the traders of Jorshimul, Kantanagar, Chikashi amd Goshaibari bazaars and the farmers of several villages have to count huge cost for transporting goods from and to Bogra town as they have to pass much longer route for the purpose.
Sujauddoula Ripon, chairman of Nimgaci union of Dhunat upazila, said the proposal for building a concrete bridge had been placed in the monthly meetings of the upazila parishad on several occasions but no step is in sight.
Contacted, Hafizur Rahman, upazila nirbahi officer of Dhunat, said the higher authority was informed of the necessity of building a concrete bridge over the Bangalee River at Joysing ghat.
