PM extends support to Iran’s nuclear deal

Visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Dr Mohammad Jabad Zarif made a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her Tejgaon office in Dhaka today.

PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said Dr Zarif informed the PM of the deal signed between Iran and six big powers on Iran's nuclear programme.

They also discussed various issues relating to mutual interests including trade, economic cooperation and visa regime between the two countries, the press secretary said.

The PM extended her full support to the deal and expressed her firm hope that it would be executed, and pave the ways for Iran's economic cooperation with international community including Bangladesh.

Sheikh Hasina said Iran and Bangladesh have traditional relation and share common culture which would be intensified in the coming days.

The premier pointed out religious freedom of the people of Bangladesh saying people of every religion have the rights to practice their religious rites and customs without any hindrance.

Bangladesh is also free from all sectarian violence, she said reiterating her stance that no one should hurt the religious sentiment of others.

Sheikh Hasina conveyed her best wishes to Iranian President Dr Hasan Ruhani.

Pointing out the Iran's deal with big powers the Iranian Foreign Minister said once the obstacles are removed the economic cooperation between Iran and other countries including Bangladesh would be strengthened.

Dr Zarif appreciated Bangladesh's support to Iran's peaceful use of nuclear energy and said present government of Iran wants to engage itself in resolving problems arising out of the global economic sanction.

The Iranian minister stressed the need for strengthening Joint Economic Commission between the two countries and said there are ample opportunities in energy and textile sectors for cooperation between the two countries.

He also proposed on-arrival visa for diplomatic and official passport holders.

PM's Advisor on International Affairs Dr Ghowher Rizvi, Iranian Ambassador to Bangladesh Abbas Vaezi Dehnavi and PMO secretary Suraiya Begum, were present among others.
