PM pays tributes to Suvra Mukherjee
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today paid rich tributes to Suvra Mukherjee, the wife of Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, by placing a wreath at her coffin in New Delhi.
The premier laid the wreath at the coffin of Suvra Mukherjee at 13 Tal Katra Road residence of Abhijit Mukherjee, son of Pranab Mukherjee, this morning.
Along with the Indian President, Sheikh Hasina later joined the funeral of Suvra Mukherjee held at Lodi Road Crematorium in the Indian capital.
Earlier, the Prime Minister went to Rastrapati Bhaban to console the Indian President and his family members.
Sheikh Hasina stayed there for some time and recalled her long time relations with Suvra Mukherjee.
She said Bangladesh has lost a great friend and well-wisher with her passing away and prayed the bereaved family to have the courage and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
Bangabandhu's younger daughter Sheikh Rehana, PM's daughter Saima Hossain, Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, PM's Principal Secretary Md Abul Kalam Azad and Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim were present on the occasion, among others.
Earlier, Sheikh Hasina arrived in the Indian capital to attend the funeral of Suvra Mukharjee.
A VVIP flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the Prime Minister landed at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Dehli at 7:50 am local time.
Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Bangladesh High Commissioner to New Delhi Syed Moazzem Ali received the Prime Minister at the airport.
