A man killed his wife and two children and then took his own life after giving a suicide post on Facebook in Chandpur Sadar upazila this morning, family sources claimed.

On information, police recovered the bodies of Mainuddin, 35, his wife Fatema Begum, 24, their five-year-old daughter Mithila and one-year-old son Siam. But they could not ascertain the reason behind their deaths.

The conflict between the husband and wife began after Fatema lost a gold earring few days back, said Mainuddin’s mother Firoza Begum, our correspondent reports.

Mainuddin worked at a bakery factory in Chattogram from where he returned home last night and brought back Fatema who had gone to her father’s house in Dakkhin upazila of Chandpur after the quarrel.

The couple had another fight at that night, according to Firoza Begum.

Around 4:00am, Mainuddin’s elder brother Jashim Uddin called Firoza from Malaysia and asked her to check on Mainuddin claiming he had given a post on Facebook about killing his wife and children and committing suicide.

Police found Fatema’s body from a nearby pond while the others’ bodies from inside the house, said Officer-in-Charge of Chandpur Model Police Station Md Nasim Uddin.

The bodies were sent to Chandpur Government General Hospital for autopsy.
