A three-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order after Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told the court that he heard MP Rana was not produced before the lower court on the scheduled date of hearing.
The attorney general said this when the SC was hearing a petition filed by MP Rana for modification of its May 8 order.
On that day, (May 8) the SC stayed for four months a High Court order that had granted bail to Rana in the case. The apex court also asked the trial court to finish the trial proceedings of Faruk Ahmed murder case in six months.
Following a bail petition filed by Rana, the HC on April 13 granted ad-interim bail to Rana and also issued a rule asking the government to explain why he should not be granted regular bail in this case. Later, the government moved an appeal before the Appellate Division for staying the HC order.
The bullet-hit body of freedom fighter Faruk, also a district AL leader of Tangail, was found on January 18, 2013. Later, a murder case was filed.
