Public varsity teachers threaten strike from Jan 11
The Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers' Association (FBUTA) threatened to observe indefinite work abstention at all public universities on January 11 if the government does not deliver on its pledges of removing "discriminations" in the 8th national pay scale.
It also demanded that the government has to issue a gazette notification on it within the given time.
As a part of the demonstration they also announced to wear black badges while taking classes on January 3 and 11:00am to 1:00pm strike on January 7, ASM Maksud Kalmal, general secretary of FBUTA told reporters at a press briefing.
The members of the organisation -- coming from 37 public universities in the country -- chalked out the demonstration schedule after holding a meeting at Social Science faculty auditorium in Dhaka University earlier in the day, Kalmal said.
On December 27, President of FBUTA Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed told a press conference at DU Teachers Club, "We will hold a meeting on January 2 with teachers of all universities to decide on tougher programmes if our demands are not met by this month. There may be a complete shutdown".
