3 ‘Neo JMB militants’ among 4 held in C'nawabganj raids

Rapid Action Battalion detained four people including three suspected militants of “Neo JMB” and recovered gunpowder, firearms and ammunition in drives at separate places in Chapainawabganj district since last night.

The suspected militants are Jahangir Alom, 43, son of Abdul Kuddus, and Abdus Shakur alias Shukurdi, 43, son of Mafiz Uddin, hailing from Balugram, and Saiful Islam, 32, son Tugu Morol of Chwakpustom, in Gomostapur upazila.

All of them are the members of Sarwar-Tamim group of the militant outfit “Neo JMB,” Mahbub Alom, commanding officer of Rab-5, told journalists at a press briefing.

Among them, Abdus Shakur used to provide firearms training, he said.

Rab arrested them in Bazarpara of Gomostapur upazila around 4:30am, he added.

Based on information provided by “detained militants”, Rab-5 raided the four houses in Nachol and Gomostapur upazilas of the district.

Three kilogrammes of gunpowder, four pistols, one toy pistol, one magazine and 13 bullets were recovered during the raids.

The gunpowder and three pistols were recovered at Abdus Shakur alias Shukurdi’s house in Balugram-Shimultola area under Gomostapur upazila at 11:00am.

They detained house owner Abdul Mazid Tanu, 43, during a raid at another house in Chandpara area under Nachol upazila around 8:00am.

Rab picked up Tanu and left the spot without disclosing any details.

Other family members were in the house when Rab conducted the drive at his house.

Law enforcers conducted two more raids at the houses owned by one Afzal in Furshedpur area under Nachole upazila, and one Ezabul Huq in Chwakpustam area under Gomostapur upazila. Nothing suspicious was found at the houses during the raid.
