Lt Commander Gulzar Hossain, deputy director of Rab-11, told The Daily Star: “A team, led by ASP Alamgir Hossain, made the arrests around 11:00am in front of the victim’s house.”
Contacted, victim Md Mohsin said he got married to Shilpi Begum two years ago. His wife filed a case against him under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act with Sonargaon Police Station five months back, Mohsin claimed.
After that, Humayun contacted Mohsin over phone and told him that a complaint was also filed with Rab-11 and he would be picked up in this connection, Rab official Gulzar added.
The constable, who is a member of Rab-13 in Rangpur area, had told Mohsin that he must pay a considerable amount of money to get cleared of the complaint, official Gulzar said.
“Humayun has already taken Tk 3.5 lakh from Mohsin in several phases over the last five months,” said the Rab official.
Mohsin contacted with the Rab-11 a few days ago and came to know that there was no complaint there against him in this regard.
Then he informed the Rab-11 about the extortion of Humayun who had set today for collecting Tk 1 lakh from Mohsin as the last installment to clear him of the charges.
Acting on the information of Mohsin, the Rab men made the arrests.
