Rangpur arson attack accused held
Police this morning arrested one person accused in a case over the Rangpur arson attack on a bus that left six people killed.
The accused Humayun Kabir Sumon, 32, of Mithapukur was arrested in Boro Darga of Pirganj on his way to Kushtia from Rangpur, said Mithapukur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Humayun Kabir.
Sumon was actively involved with Jamaat-e-Islami’s student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir, the OC said.
Earlier on March 19, two people including a prime key accused Joynal Master, 50, Kafrikhal union Jamaat Amir, and his sibling Masum Amin, 44, also an activist of the party, at Pirojpur of the upazila.
Six people were killed in the firebomb attack on a bus at Jaigirhat in Mithapukur upazila of Rangpur on January 14 during the countrywide blockade programme enforced by the BNP-led alliance since January 6.
