HC wants to know steps on rehabilitation of street children
The High Court today wanted to know what steps the government have taken for rehabilitation of all street children across the country.
The court also asked Ministry of Women and Children Affairs to submit a report on the issue in 40 days.
The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mustafizur Rahman passed the order while hearing a writ petition filed by Md Moniruzzaman, a Supreme Court lawyer.
He submitted the petition seeking necessary order from the HC on the government to take legal action against the culprit who set fire on a 10-year-old street child at Fakirerpool area on Monday.
The court today ordered officer-in-charge of Motijheel Police Station to arrest the criminal and file a case in connection with the incident.
On Monday evening, Selim, a homeless child, was set on fire by an unidentified man and was critically injured with 27 percent burns. He is now taking treatment in Dhaka Medical College’s burn unit.
The child could not provide any information about his parents and the person who set him on fire, said police officials.
